Summer Lunch & Fun Returns for 2020, with Some Changes

The annual program, which provides lunch and enrichment for kids 18 and under while school is out for the summer returns, but with some changes, on June 8, 2020.

It will be offered every weekday through Aug. 7, with the exception of July 3. Organizers ask participants to be patient as they adapt to the new program, which could change week to week as necessary.

To-go lunches will be provided by the Iowa City Community and Clear Creek Amana school districts, similar to their programs during the spring coronavirus break, and the program will provide takeaway activities.

Activity packs will be available while they last from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No registration or payment required, and all locations will have the same packs through the week.

  • Monday: Ranshaw House, 515 W. Penn St., Garner Elementary,  80 Birch St, and North Bend Elementary, 2230 St Andrews Dr.
  • Tuesday: 8 Point Trail
  • Wednesday: Ranshaw House, 515 W. Penn St.,

Hand hygiene, face coverings and social distancing will be required.

Families who would have typically gotten lunch at the program are strongly encouraged to visit their school lunch distribution site for lunches. In the event that a kid can’t get to one of the four school lunch sites, a limited number of sack lunches will be available for carry away at the Ranshaw House each weekday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or until they are gone.
