Local Libraries LIT, Presenting Author Mira Jacob, Supports Local Libraries
Local Libraries LIT, a partnership among the North Liberty Library, Iowa City Public Library, Coralville Public Library and University of Iowa Libraries and the presenting partner The Tuesday Agency, will feature award-winning writer Mira Jacob in support of local libraries on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at 7 p.m.
Mira Jacob is a novelist, memoirist, illustrator, and cultural critic. Born in New Mexico to parents who immigrated from India, she uses her dual-culture background to navigate the ebb and flow of politics and modern culture. Her novel Good Talk: A Memoir in Conversations is “a beautiful and eye-opening account of what it means to mother a brown boy and what it means to live in this country post–9/11, as a person of color, as a woman, as an artist,” says Jacqueline Woodson, National Book Award–winning author of Another Brooklyn. “In Jacob’s brilliant hands, we are gifted with a narrative that is sometimes hysterical, always honest, and ultimately healing.” Good Talk is a bold, wry, and intimate graphic memoir about American identity, interracial families, and the realities that divide us.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming Mira Jacob into our communities via this new collaborative virtual series ‘Local Libraries LIT.’” says, Alison Ames Galstad, director of the Coralville Public Library. “Her bold and very personal story about the difficult conversations around racism and implicit bias is inspirational, and much needed during a time when we all need to be having these ‘good talks.'”
Local Libraries LIT strives to spark actions to grow thriving communities which shine with diversity, equity and inclusion. Support your local libraries and future endeavors by securing your reservation to this virtual program for $25.
