Fire Department Responds to a Structure Fire at 840 W. Penn St.
The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 2:16 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, for a report of smoke coming from the building at 840 W. Penn St. The building houses the restaurant Tin Roost. A Johnson County Sheriff deputy was first to arrive and confirmed the presence of smoke in the building. The restaurant was closed at the time of the fire, and there were no occupants present.
As North Liberty fire units arrived, firefighters found the fire in the kitchen, held in check by the building’s sprinkler system. Fire crews deployed a hose line to fully extinguish the fire. Crews conducted a search of the building, ensured that the fire did not extend to the attic and ventilated the smoke.
Firefighters from Coralville and Solon assisted in the effort, as did the North Liberty Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center. Crews were on the scene for just under two hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A loss estimate is unavailable at this time.
