Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on Burr Drive Sunday
The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 2:13 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2021, for a building fire at 1557 Burr Drive in North Liberty.
Neighbors had discovered an exterior fire and alerted the home’s occupants of the fire. All occupants were able to evacuate the unit safely.
As North Liberty fire units arrived, firefighters deployed hose lines to knock down the fire, which was located on the front exterior of the home. The fire worked through the eves and spread to the attic. A cat was located and rescued from the fire.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control within 26 minutes of arrival. Multiple crews were needed to suppress the fire due to the warm temperatures.
The home sustained extensive fire and smoke damage. The Red Cross was requested and is assisting occupants with immediate needs. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the connected units. A loss estimate is currently unavailable. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The North Liberty Fire Department was assisted by fire crews from Coralville, Solon, Swisher, Iowa City and Tiffin. The North Liberty Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance, MidAmerican Energy, Hodge Construction and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center also assisted.
