Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire at 2897 240th St. NW
The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 7:39 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, for a report of a building fireat 2897 240th Street NW. A North Liberty police officer was the first to arrive and confirmed that a farm outbuilding was engulfed in flames. NLPD arrived and ensured that no one was in the building and located a large propane tank near the structure.
As North Liberty fire units arrived, firefighters found thebuilding fully involved and the roof of the building collapsed on the contents. Hose lines were deployed to extinguish the fire and protect the nearby exposures. Crews worked to uncover hot spots to fully extinguish the fire. A nearby horse trailer and pickup truck were also damaged by the fire.
Firefighters from Tiffin and Swisher assisted in the effort, as did the North Liberty Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center. Crews were on the scene for just under two hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and a loss estimate is currently unavailable.
