Coralville Public Library Movie Night

Coralville Public Library – Schwab Auditorium 

Join us for a free movie night at the Library! On April 6 we are screening Where the Crawdads Sing. This is a coming of age story set in the 1950s in the marshlands of the South about Kya Clark, who, after being abandoned by her family, becomes the prime subject in a murder. Based on the best-selling book by Delia Owens. Where the Crawdads Sing is approximately 2 hours long and is rated PG-13. The showing will be in the library basement, and there is basement parking available!

North Liberty Library – Meeting Room CD 

The Nature of Judicial Power – Sometimes, the courts don’t decide important issues before them. In this lecture, take a closer look at why courts quite often choose not to decide a particular case on its merits. Topics here include justiciability doctrines (court-made decisions under which courts impose limitations on their power), sovereign immunity, and official immunity.

Local Libraries LIT (listen, initiate, talk) is a collaboration presented by every public library in Johnson County, Iowa, the University of Iowa Libraries, Kirkwood Community College Library, and the Tuesday Agency. The goal of the speaker series is to spark action to develop thriving communities. 

Esmé’s New York Times-bestselling essay collection, The Collected Schizophrenias, won the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize and the Whiting Award for Nonfiction. Of the collection, NPR writes, “The Collected Schizophrenias is riveting, honest…we are lucky to have it in the world.” Her debut novel, The Border of Paradise, was named a Best Book of 2016 by NPR and one of the 25 Best Novels of 2016 by Electric Literature.
