Talking Trash: An Indian City’s Remarkable Waste Management Story

The Johnson County United Nations Association will be presenting Talking Trash: An Indian City’s Remarkable Waste Management Story from speaker Jerry Anthony of the U of I School of Planning and Public Affairs. Attendance is available in person at the library and online through Zoom.

Since it is the fifth Friday of the month, SugaPeach will be providing our meal this week. After lunch we’ll have social time for anyone who would like to stay after and chat. Registration for lunch just $5 and is required for all who attend. Participants must register before noon on Thursday, September 28th. Community Meal

Coralville Public Library – Front Lawn 

The Coralville Public Library is excited to partner with the Coralville Community Food Pantry to host a Free Community Meal on Friday, September 29 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM on the Library front lawn. All are welcome! 

The goal of the meal is to cultivate solidarity within our community by sharing a nourishing meal with our neighbors. This meal is in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional annual festival observed in many Asian cultures. The meal will feature traditional Chinese dishes prepared by a team of community chefs. Vegan and gluten free options will be available.

-Rice*
-Pickled veggies*

-Dessert

Tremble Clefs Therapeutic Singing Group 

Mondays – Starting October 2nd  

10:30 AM – 12 PM 

Iowa City Senior Center – 28 Linn St, Iowa City 

Tremble Clefs, a therapeutic singing group for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), caregivers, and family members, will begin rehearsals this Fall/Winter 2023 season at the Iowa City Senior Center. 

Common PD symptoms include the loss of voice, communication difficulties resulting a decreased volume of voice and lung capacity, and depression. This weekly program will provide specific therapeutic exercises that benefit the health of individuals with PD. 

This weekly program includes: 

  • Vocal exercises: strengthen voice and improve communication. 
  • Breathing techniques: improve lung capacity and overall vitality. 
  • Movement/Exercise: promote physical well-being and flexibility. 

Anyone with PD is welcome, along with their spouse, caregivers, and extended family members. No musical experience or background is required to participate in the program. If you want to learn about the program, please contact Sun Joo Lee via email at [email protected]

Club 24 

Monday, October 2 

9 AM 

North Liberty Rec Center – Classrooms 1 & 2 

CLUB 24 is a new program for adults and seniors to socialize over University of Iowa Athletics.
During Club 24 patrons will watch re-runs of current Iowa sporting events, the Nile Kinnick Documentary, and hear from guest speakers.
Patrons can sign up online, over the phone (319-626-5716), or in person at the Community Center. Patrons must reserve their spot by the proceeding Friday (September 29th) each week.
Patrons will pay $6 cash day of the program unless they sign up online. Online registration you must pay at checkout. The cost will cover cinnamon rolls from Bluebird Café. Coffee will be provided for patrons also. 

Request an Absentee Ballot  

You can now request an absentee ballot for the November 7, 2023 City/ School Election. Forms must be in the hands of the Johnson County Auditor’s Office by 5pm on October 23, 2023.
