The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 2:43 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, for a report of a building fire at 183 Golfview Court. While responding, a black column of smoke could be seen blocks away.

As North Liberty fire units arrived, firefighters found heavy fire in the front room of the residence, extending to the exterior and attic space.  Hose lines were deployed to extinguish the exterior fire as well as the interior and attic space. A search of the residence found a ferret, which was removed and given to the occupant.  The occupants had self-evacuated; one was evaluated by the Johnson County Ambulance Service.  The occupant declined medical treatment beyond what was provided at the scene.

Firefighters from Coralville and Solon assisted in the effort, as did the North Liberty Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, North Liberty Water Department, Red Cross and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center. Crews were on the scene for 1.25 hours.
