55+ Connections: Week of 12/25/23

THERE WILL BE NO 55+ Connections Friday Lunch on December 29th.

Please join us in the new year on January 5th!

Registration for lunch is just $5 and is required for all who attend. Participants must register before noon on Thursday, December 21st. Call the Rec Center to register (319)626-5716 or go online to your RecDesk Account and register yourself.

City Holiday Hours 

The Library will be closed December 24 – 26, as well as December 29 – January 1, but will be open for regular business hours on Saturday, December 30.

Collections for trash, recycling, yard waste and compost will be delayed one day for the weeks of Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. Addresses west of Ranshaw Way (Highway 965) will be collected on Wednesdays Dec. 27 and Jan. 3; addresses east of Ranshaw Way (Highway 965) will be collected Thursdays Dec. 28 and Jan. 4.

Pick up a log at the library or track your progress on the Beanstack App . Every time you read or listen to an audio book for 20 minutes you get one chance to be entered for the prize drawings. Read up to 500 minutes to complete your log for 25 chances to win! Return your log to the library by January 31st 

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) 

What is LIHEAP? LIHEAP is a federally-funded program designed to assist low income families meet the cost of home heating by providing a one-time payment to the heating utility. 

 Who can apply? Both owner-occupied and renter-occupied households are eligible to apply. Households with incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty income guidelines may be eligible for assistance.  

When can I apply? Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis November 1 – April 30 of each year. Households with a member 60 years of age or older, those who are disabled, and those in crisis can begin applying October 1st.

In person at Johnson County 367 Southgate Avenue, Iowa City, IA

For your convenience, drop boxes are available 24/7 to submit your application. Please ensure all required documents are included. If not provided your application will be marked as incomplete and returned back to you.
