55+ Connections: Tuesday Gathering

North Liberty Library – Meeting Room CD
This week we have a rare fifth Tuesday of the month, which means it’s movie time! We’ll be playing the documentary Plastic Earth. It is appropriate for all ages and all ages are welcome.
What it’s about: Worldwide plastic production from fossil-based sources continues to rise and contribute to climate change, pollution and environmental issues. Scientists, engineers, researchers and innovators tackle solutions to deal with the over-production of single-use plastics.
We’ll begin playing the movie at 10:45 AM, the runtime is 1 hour and 40 minutes. We will have coffee and snacks available!
55+ Connections: Friday Lunch

This week, we have Hy-Vee catering and they are expected to bring smoked pork loin, roasted red potatoes, and roasted veggies. After lunch we will play a few rounds of bingo! Registration for lunch is $5 and required for all who attend. Participants must register before noon on Thursday, August 1st. Call the Rec Center to register (319)626-5716 or go online to your RecDesk Account and register yourself.

National Night Out

Join city staff in celebrating the nationwide community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. There will be giveaways and games, a free dinner (hot dogs and chips) in partnership with the North Liberty Optimists, and a chance to meet with Johnson County emergency service organizations.

Whether you’re struggling with using an app, hardware issues, or just need some general advice, we’ve got you covered. Stanley Museum of Art – Lobby
Artist and teacher Laurie Zaiger will discuss how she teaches technique and structure while nurturing each student’s artistic voice. She will tell us what happens in an art classroom and the impact that it has on the student and the teacher.
Stanley Sage is a program with older adults in mind. We’ve invited a local artist to tell their art story and connect it to the Stanley collections. There will be pastries!
