Make It Mondays: Coffee Filter Snowflake

The North Liberty Recreation Department’s Make It Monday craft for Dec. 7 is a coffee filter snowflake. Included in this week’s kit are all the materials you need to make the craft (you should provide glue and scissors), coloring sheets, movie trivia and activity ideas.

Each week, Make It Monday offers a free to-go activity for kids. To participate in the program, simply stop by the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry Street, and pick up an activity kit while supplies last. Kits are free.

How to Make a Coffee Filter Snowflake

Materials

  • Basket-style coffee filter
  • Scissors

Steps

  1. Fold your coffee filter in half.
  2. Fold it in half again, and even one more time if you’d like. The more times you fold it, the more fun symmetry it will have when it’s done.
  3. Using your scissors, start cutting small half circles or triangle cuts out of the folds. Be careful not to cut it all the way in half or you will have two pieces, and you don’t want that!
  4. Open up your snowflake to see what you’ve created. If you need to, fold it back up and continue cutting.
