Shine named 2013 Officer of the Year nationally

Since 1993, the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award has recognized an exceptional act or service by a law enforcement officer and is administered by the NRA Law Enforcement Division. For his service in 2013, North Liberty’s Christopher Shine was named this year’s winner.

Officer Shine’s heroic actions under the most stressful and confusing circumstances while seriously injured is a credit to himself, his department, and the community he serves and are in keeping with the highest traditions of law enforcement. Had the gunman been able to continue his attack and exit the trailer there is no doubt the lives of the gunman’s girlfriend and Officer Shine’s fellow officers would have been in jeopardy.

In December, Shine was named North Liberty’s first Officer of the Year, and in January he was promoted to Sargent.
