Beat the Bitter and get better at winter

FB-profileIowans can be pretty bad at winter, our friends at the North Liberty Community Betterment Group (the 501(c)(3) that organizes Blues & BBQ, Summer Lunch and Fun, Community Thanksgiving and other community events) have noticed. Unlike our Nordic brethren up north, we tend to hide and hibernate inside once Daylight Saving Time ends.
We’re vowing to get better.
To help, you’re invited to fight off the post-holiday winter malaise and join us for winter games, friendly competition and good cheer at the inaugural Beat the Bitter. Events are scheduled in North Liberty, Iowa, for Feb. 6, 2016, at Penn Meadows Park during daylight and at Reds Alehouse starting at 6 p.m.
During the day, compete in the Indomitable Snow Run 5K-ish obstacle run (ages 14+) at 9:30 a.m., Porcupine’s Revenge challenges from 12 to 4 p.m., a kickball tournament at 11:30 a.m., a fat tire bike course (14+) with Sugar Bottom Bikes from 12 to 4 p.m., a city-wide Nearly Impossible Scavenger Hunt and other activities in the Winter Village. Some events require registration; visit beatthebitter.com for details.
At night, Reds Alehouse plays host to a 21-and-up, ticketed event. Tickets, $50 per person, include a buffet, select wine and draft beer, music from DJ Boogie B & MC Jody, challenges and good cheer. Tickets can be purchased online through the link at beatthebitter.com.
Our thanks to our sponsors, including Adam Schechinger State Farm, Capanna Coffee & Gelato, Rage Grafix, Reds Alehouse, Sugar Bottom Bikes, and the North Liberty Recreation Department, for their support.
