Fire Department Responds to 1215 Jordan St., Sprinklers Do Their Job

The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 9:32 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, for a report of a fire alarm at 1215 Jordan Street.

As North Liberty fire and police arrived, firefighters found an activated sprinkler system and a haze of smoke in the building, prompting a request for additional North Liberty personnel as well as the Coralville and Solon fire departments. Once inside, firefighters found a fire in the kitchen that had been largely extinguished by the sprinkler system. No one was in the building at the time of the fire.

Firefighters from Coralville and Solon assisted in the effort, as did the North Liberty Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center. Crews were on the scene for less than an hour. The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental with several cardboard boxes left on a stovetop. The building is assessed at $397,800.  A loss estimate is currently unavailable, although likely minimal due to the quick response of the sprinkler system.
