Colony Acres Highlights Next Stage

Each year, Dean and Katie Colony have a big decision to make: the annual theme for the Colony Acres corn maze. After all, it’s literally a 10-acre decision they can’t take back.

This year, Colony Acres, 1150 Front St., chose to highlight the Building North Liberty’s Next Stage campaign to add an amphitheater and event center at Centennial Park in addition to future phases with a splash pad and play structures, shelters, shade, a pavilion, restrooms and honor garden.

“As third-generation Iowa farmers, we take pride in continuing to nourish the deep roots that our family has planted in this community, beginning 97 years ago. Having raised our kids here in North Liberty, we understand the magic that makes this community special,” said Dean and Katie. “Community gatherings are the lifeblood of strong communities, and we’re excited about what Next Stage will bring to ours at Centennial Park.”

Guests can enjoy the 10-acre Next Staged-themed maze and other attractions, including the farm’s new Market, through Oct. 31. Details, including hours, are available on the Colony Acre’s website.

Through a variety of public and private sources, more than 75% of funding has been secured for the $8.8 million first phase, which will include the Centennial Center and amphitheater, permanent restrooms and the infrastructure to support the rest of the planned improvements. Gifts to the project, through the Community Foundation of Johnson County, are critical to completing the work, and are welcome and appreciated. All gifts $500 or more will be permanently recognized at the park. Gifts of $5,000 or more will be recognized on an artistic donor wall. See what’s available and give at northlibertyiowa.org/give. We’re a quarter of the way to our $1 million goal for community giving.

Phases two through four of Centennial Park include the addition of a premier splash pad, an open-air pavilion, expansive plaza spaces, wheelchair-accessible playground features, expanded parking and trails, restrooms and an honor garden. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
