Curbside Leaf Collection Extended for Fall 2023

Update: fall curbside leaf collection has been extended by two weeks and will run through Dec. 1, 2023. Leaves to be collected must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. This service is free and weather dependent; snow can require staff to convert equipment to prepare for its timely removal.

Fall leaf collection is scheduled to start Monday, Oct. 9, 2023 and run through Nov. 17.

To have your leaves collected, rake them within two feet of the public street by 7 a.m. on Monday. All public streets in town will be collected at least once before a second round will start.  Crews expect to collect twice each week, but during heavy collection, residents may see delays and only a single collection during the week.

Please don’t bag your leaves or mix them with sticks, branches or other yard waste, or any other materials. To speed collection, please avoid placing piles near street signs or utility poles, and avoid parking vehicles in front of leaf piles.

This service is free and weather dependent; snow can require staff to convert equipment to prepare for its timely removal.

Residents have a few options to dispose of leaves is if disposal timing is critical or after the curbside collection ends:

  1. Put in Johnson County Refuse yard waste bags, collected on your regular trash and recycling day, for $1.65 per bag
  2. Taken to Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, 300 Hebl Ave. SW, Iowa City, for free
  3. Wait for spring curbside leaf collection, for free
