Introducing Taylor Drift, the Penn Street Pulverizer and Friends

Winter’s a grind, and locals understandably grow weary of cruddy weather, no-parking declarations, short days and the other trappings of the season. So, too, do our Streets Department, who before, during and after the storm to keep streets passable, and Parks Department, who clear trails and public parking lots throughout town, and they work early mornings, late nights and full days.

In an effort to turn lemons into lemonade slushy, Z102.9 partnered with the City of North Liberty to name its snow plows.

“Some folks have a negative reaction to snow—especially the further we get into the winter season,” said Clare Duffy, cohost of Z102.9’s The Morning Scramble. “Naming the snow plows is a way to keep the fun of winter alive all season long! We pleased as punch to partner with the city of North Liberty.”

Listeners submitted name suggestions and voted on finalists to select names for six North Liberty snow plows. One plow driver’s mom called in to make her pitch.

Eventually listeners landed on Snow Worries, Aaron Burrrr, Taylor Drift, Snorth Liberty, Frostin’ Plowers and Penn Street Pulverizer for the plows’ names. Our seventh plow was dubbed Snojo Dojo Casa Plow by city staff.

The plows will don nametags and, throughout the winter, The Morning Scramble hosts Duffy and Eric Hanson will check in as they get ready to fight off frost, ice, sleet and snow.
