Highway 965 Construction Switches Sides

September 3, 2010 — Construction on Highway 965 will start on the east side of the street starting Thursday, September 9. The intersection at Golfview Drive will likely close September 10 in order to re-align it with Fairview, plus the entrance of Holiday Lodge Road will close that day if there has not been rain which could delay the project. Residents of Holiday Lodge will need to use Westwood Drive while residents of Golfview Park will need to use Hawkeye Drive.

In approximately two weeks, entrances to Ashley and Lions will close. Drivers wanting to visit the businesses near Ashley should use Sara as a detour.  However, those accessing Lions should use Hawkeye Drive. It’s important to note there is no connection between Ashley and Lions.

This construction will consist of tearing out temporary asphalt, followed by putting down concrete. A turning lane will be added at Lions, but initial work for a traffic signal will be at Ashley. Following these closings, Hawkeye will be closed in order to add a turning lane. Though exact closing dates of intersections have yet to be determined, the entire project is slated to be complete by the end of the year, contingent on weather. Once work on the pavement is complete, traffic signals will be installed at Fairview/Golfview and Ashley, which will be synced to the stop lights at Westwood, Cherry and Penn.

City Administrator, Ryan Heiar, notes in his blog, “So, on Thursday (a week from today), we will shift traffic, allowing vehicles to travel on the new concrete and work to begin on the east side.  The shift should not cause a major delay in traffic as two lanes will remain open.  That said, pavement markings will be removed prior to the shift and machinery and workers will be in the middle of the roadway during this time.  As always, drive with extra caution when workers are in the middle of the road….The closures will certainly be inconvenient, but, when the project is complete, access to Highway 965…will be much improved.”

The City of North Liberty thanks you for your patience. Mr. Heiar’s blog is available at https://northlibertyiowa.org/category/ryan-heiar/ which offers updates on various projects.
