City Hall Reopened at 360 N Main St.

City Hall has moved from its previous, leased offices into the new, permanent building at 360 N. Main St. at 7 a.m.

The public can accesses the same services at the new location during the same business hours: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Departments located at the building include Administration, Billing and Finance, Building Inspection, Planning, Community Relations and Human Resources.

A ribbon cutting and open house is planned for Tuesday, May 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Training:

  • Officer attended Ice Diving training with the Johnson County Dive Team. (8 hours)
  • An officer attended the monthly joint bomb team training (8 hours)
  • One officer attended Traffic Incident Management (TIM) conference in Ames, Iowa. This is a multidisciplinary approach for transportation emergencies for safe and quick clearance of traffic incidents. (8 hours).
  • The Drug Task Force officer attended the annual Narcotics Officer Association training conference in Des Moines (24 hours).
  • A supervisor attended free training at ILEA by the Secret Service for dignitary protections and local law enforcement support. (12 hours)
  • A supervisor attended free training at JECC for Emergency and Special Event planning presented by FEMA (24 hours)

Public Relations:
 

  • Officer Travis Clubb completed one child safety check this month.
  • Officers conducted table top mock intruder drills with staff at North Central Junior High School.
  • Officer Tygart attended a “lunch and learn” session at North Central Junior High. This is an opportunity for junior high school students to ask questions about the law and being a police officer.
  • Officers conducted a site safety security assessment at South Slope Cooperative.
  • Officers attended the North Liberty Optimist Pancake breakfast and the North Liberty Community Center Annual Easter Egg hunt.

Equipment:
 

  • An ID printer was purchased to be shared between the police and fire departments. This will be used in our department to keep current on our employee identification cards. This ID card is provided to all sworn and non-sworn employees.

 
Enforcement:

  • Several reports were taken for identity theft related issues and IRS tax e-filings.
  • This month we have seen an increase in altercations/fights among individuals in public places.
  • The investigator has been working on a prostitution investigation at a local business with other law enforcement agencies, patrons visiting the establishment, employees, and the owner of the property.

Department Admin:
 

  • Ben Campbell and Ricardo Vazquez started the Hawkeye Police Academy and will be training for 9 weeks.
  • Officer Lee Bowstead tendered his resignation and will be continuing his career at the University of Iowa Police department. We wish him well with his new department.
  • Recruit Officer Ryan Ellis was offered a conditional job offer and will be going to the April 20th ILEA academy.
  • The University of Iowa, College of Law has legal interns that are reviewing, comparing and making recommendations for taser policies. They have included North Liberty in the second phase of their review in partnership with the ACLU.
  • Pastor Boyd Keuster has agreed to take on the role of police chaplain for the North Liberty Police department. Chaplain Boyd has experience as a police chaplain and lives in North Liberty.
