Operation ReLeaf returns in October

The City of North Liberty, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Alliant Energy are again partnering for Operation ReLeaf, a program that helps residential customers save energy by planting trees to shade their homes or to create a wind break as well as improving long-term community reforestation and energy conservation through efficient landscaping.
Since 2001, Iowa has seen more than 62,265 new trees been planted throughout the state due to Operation ReLeaf.
Alliant Energy customers can purchase up to two trees, which retail on average for $65, for $25. A limited number of trees are available and advance purchase is recommended. Trees must be picked up on Oct. 24, 2015 between 8 and 9 a.m. at North Liberty Community Center, 520 West Cherry Street in North Liberty.
To purchase in advance, complete and mail the application by Oct. 16, 2015, with payment.
Available trees include: Gingko Presidential Gold, Littleleaf Linden Glenleven, Kentucky Coffeetree, Hackberry, Chinkapin Oak, American Hophornbeam, Honeylocust Northern Acclaim, Swamp White Oak, and Star Magnolia Royal Star.
A tree-planting workshop will be held at 8:30 a.m. so residents can help ensure the livelihood of their new trees. More information about the program is available at alliantenergy.com/releaf
