Things to know before you fly

Did you get a new quadcopter, drone or other so-called unmanned aircraft system over the winter? Awesome. Have fun, but don’t forget the Federal Aviation Administration’s registration requirements and safety guidelines (the City of North Liberty doesn’t currently have additional restrictions).
The common-sense guidelines include:

  • Fly below 400 feet
  • Keep the unmanned aircraft system in eyesight
  • Don’t fly near people or moving vehicles
  • Don’t fly in high winds, reduced visibility, etc
  • Don’t fly under the influence
  • Don’t fly near sensitive infrastructure, such as water treatment, heavily traveled roads, etc
