Police respond to threats to Liberty High School

On the evening of Nov. 16, 2017, the North Liberty Police Department received reports of an anonymous chat on Instagram threatening harm at Liberty High School on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, and naming an individual student. The police notified the Iowa City Community School District and continued to investigate the situation with the collaboration of students and families who could be identified in the anonymous posts.

The person responsible for the threat was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. Because the suspect is a minor, additional information will not be released.

The Iowa City Community School District made the decision to cancel school at Liberty High after being notified of the specific threat by the North Liberty Police Department last night. Following the arrest of the suspect, the ICCSD will reopen Liberty High School for extracurricular activities.
