Water Tower One comes down

Erected in 1976 and out of use since 2008, North Liberty’s first water was demolished yesterday.
As the town has grown, so has its water usage, and the 200,000-gallon capacity of the oldest tower represents less than 2 percent of the town’s 1.2 million-gallon daily use, so upkeep of the tower made less sense. The city currently has a 400,000-gallon tower on 240th Street, built in 1995, and a 1,000,000-gallon tower on Kansas Avenue. Additional capacity comes from an aquifer storage and recover well, with another 750,000-gallon ground-level storage tank planned in conjunction with a water plant project in the coming year.
