Fall into Cleanup Day
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of North Liberty cancelled its annual spring cleanup day, with plans to offer an alternative in the fall. While we won’t be able to host the day as we normally do, we are offering residential refuse customers some alternatives to dispose of additional refuse this November.
These options, for residential North Liberty customers who pay $.30 a month ($3.60 per year) on their city utility bill, are a landfill disposal voucher valued up to $7.50 for the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center or two stickers valued at $6 for curbside disposal on the customer’s normal collection day. Details of each are below.
Selections can be made starting now, and will be distributed starting Monday, Nov. 9, 2020. The deadline to make a selection is 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23. Only one selection will be accepted and processed per house hold.
If you need help or have questions about these options, please reach out to city hall by calling (319) 626-5700.
Landfill Disposal Voucher
Customers with large quantities of waste can choose a voucher for $7.50, representing a 300-pound general load, for use at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center from Nov. 9 through Nov. 30. The voucher can also be used towards loads larger than 300 pounds, or the disposal of appliances, electronics, tires or other waste, with the customer paying any additional costs. The landfill also accepts the following items, but they cannot be included in general waste loads: yard waste, cardboard, computer and TV monitors, tires, appliances, lead acid batteries and oil. The landfill does not charge for the disposal of hazardous waste disposal or for general recycling, but there are fees for items such as appliances and electronics. Visit their website for more information.
To request a voucher, complete the form online below. Please allow at least two business days for processing. Vouchers will be emailed to the provided email address on Nov. 9, Nov. 16, Nov. 23 and Nov. 25. The deadline to make a selection is 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23.
To use the voucher, residents will need to print the voucher and surrender it to the cashier at the landfill and recycling center. The customer is responsible for any charges over $7.50. The voucher may be used through Nov. 30.
Stickers for Curbside Collection
Customers with small quantities of extra refuse, or who cannot haul refuse to the landfill, can choose two stickers, representing two extra bags of trash, for curbside disposal on the customer’s normal collection day. The stickers can also be used towards the collection of larger items; the required number is listed below.
