Get Connected with Your Neighborhood Ambassador — and Your Community

More than 40 North Libertarians have stepped up, volunteering to help their neighbors get better connected with their community. They’ll also help the City of North Liberty better serve its residents. You’re invited to get to know them.

In February, North Liberty households will receive a printed directory of current Neighborhood Ambassadors in their mailboxes. While ambassadors will be working to introduce themselves to their neighbors through Nextdoor, in person at local parks, and other avenues suited to their unique neighborhoods, residents are encouraged to reach out to ambassador directly to welcome them to their new volunteer role and begin building connections. The directory is also available online.

These Neighborhood Ambassadors will be key players in the city’s Great Neighborhoods initiative by being on-the-ground local leaders to help advance the quality of life for their neighbors. Ambassadors will partner with the city to help close the information gap between the city and residents, build community through group activities and projects, and connect neighbors to each other and to community resources.

The Great Neighborhood initiative also includes Language Ambassadors, who can help non-English speakers navigate city services and connect with resources.

Ambassadors were selected from applications submitted last fall. The Communications Advisory Commission and city communications staff found the selected ambassadors to be responsive and community minded, that they value diversity and want everyone in North Liberty to feel welcome, and recognize the importance of information equity. There were more qualified applicants than spots available, as the number of ambassadors in each neighborhood is relative to the number of households in a given neighborhood, with the goal to achieve balanced resident engagement across the city.

Still, some vacancies remain, and applications for all neighborhoods are accepted at any time. Residents are invited to learn more and apply.
