Hedgewood Circle Residential Fire
The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 6:14 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, for a fire in a residence at 1760 Hedgewood Circle. The North Liberty Police Department was the first to arrive and witnessed smoke from multiple sides of the building. All human occupants had left the building themselves and were accounted for.
As North Liberty fire units arrived, firefighters deployed hose lines to knock down the fire, which was contained to the kitchen. Crews then conducted a search of the building and extinguished remaining hot spots. Multiple crews were needed to suppress the fire, ventilate the building and perform overhaul operations.
Sadly, two dogs died due to smoke inhalation. The Red Cross was requested and is assisting occupants with immediate needs. A loss estimate is unavailable at this time.
Firefighters from Coralville and Solon assisted in the effort, as did the Johnson County Ambulance, North Liberty Police and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center. Crews were on the scene for just over three hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
