Make it Mondays: Thankful Pumpkin

The North Liberty Recreation Department’s Make It Monday craft for the week of Nov. 8, 2021, is a thankful pumpkin. Included in this week’s kit are all the materials you need to make the craft (you should provide glue, scissors and markers), coloring sheets and activity ideas.

Each week, Make It Monday offers a free to-go activity for kids. To participate in the program, simply stop by the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry Street, and pick up an activity kit while supplies last. Kits are free.

How to Make It

Materials

  • Colored paper
  • Crayon/pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Steps

  1. Cut out eight pieces of orange contraction paper into 1-inch strips.  You will also need to cut out 2 leaves and 2 skinny strips of green contraction paper for the vines.
  2. Have kids write something they are thankful for on each strip of orange construction paper.  Be sure to leave about a 1 inch space on the sides of the strip so the writing isn’t cramped
  3. Use a stapler or brads to attach the orange strips at the top and then at the bottom to form a pumpkin. veered up when stapled together.
  4. Add your leaves and green vines.  You can roll up the green construction in a paper to help curl the vine
